Varandey FOIROT - intended for export by sea of the oil, extracted by the «Lukoil» company in the Timano-Pechora oil and gas bearing province

The terminal is installed at a depth of 17 meters in the Barents Sea, 22 km from the coast near the Varandey town in the Nenets Autonomous Federal District. From the terminal, oil is transported by shuttle tankers to the port of Murmansk to the Kola offshore storage tank for further export. The terminal operates year-round, icebreaking ships are involved in the winter season.

FOIROT is a very complex structure with a height of more than 50 meters with a total weight of more than 11 thousand tons, and consists of two parts - a support base with a living accommodation unit for 12 people, technological systems and a rotary mooring and cargo device with a jib and a Helipad. The octagonal shape of the support base is designed to withstand the highest ice load. The FOIROT base is attached to the seabed with 24 piles. The FOIROT is connected to the shore by two strings of an underwater pipeline.
Varandey FOIROT is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the northernmost year-round operating oil terminal in the world.
